Opening June 30, 2010

Twilight:  Eclipse

Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob — knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.

Casey's Take:  Y'know that love letter you wrote to your 9th-grade crush that poured out the contents of your heart and feelings through your ever tightening chest when you should have been reading excerpts of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's "100 years of Solitude", only to be followed by masturbating through tears to Widespread Panic when you realized that the current "love of your life" liked the guy with the car and the dirty apartment who bought her friends beer?  Yea this movie is what would happen if they turned your letter into a screenplay.  Enjoy.

Much Ado About Lebowski - Presented by the Screwheads! - June 24th - June 27th, 2010

If you're a Cohen Brothers fan, you're going to dig this live production, happening June 24th - 27th at CELLspace in SOMA. From the newsletter from the folks behind the production, check out the details below:

"Hey Screwheads Fans!

It's that time of year again for the Screwheads to cause some havoc and trouble.  This year, though, we're going to do it with a little class.

We're taking the basic 16th century Comedy of Errors idea, adding characters from the Cohen Brothers' movies Raising Arizona and The Big Lebowski, made it so these characters speak in a classic Elizabethan language and what we got is this zany mishmash comedy we like to call:

MUCH ADO ABOUT LEBOWSKI.

A live staged parody about a man named Sir Geoffery of Lebowski, who lived a simple, humble life until the day he was mistaken for Geoffery of Lebrowski.  On that day, one man's quiet life turns into utter chaos full of kidnappings, escaped prisoners, rug peeing, theatrical porn, and a severed toe.

You'll also see:

-Live Minstrels playing classic songs
-A Dancing Greek Chorus
-Bowling Balls
-A bar serving White Russians
-And Squirting Blood (Hey, we're the Screwheads, got to have some blood.)

Opening Friday June 4, 2010

Opening this week are movies about dogs, people, doctors, foreigners, science, religion, politics, and death.  Yup early summer crap that hopes to stick it out until 4th of July madness happens.  Enjoy!

Marmaduke

A Great Dane's life is "turned upside down" when his family relocates from Kansas to Los Angeles, CA.

Casey's Take:  Be sure to "Live Large" at the cinema this weekend, as "The Duke" goes "Off the Leash" to ruin your weekend. No one likes the comic, what makes anyone thinks this will go well?  Oh right, it's Hollywood.

Get Him to The Greek

Seth Rogen's smaller fatter friend, has 72 hours to get the rocker from Forgetting Sarah Marshall to the Greek  Arena in NYC from London to win "Da Band 5: More White People Than Ever"

Casey's Take:  The Apatow Crew returns to fine form in the most entertaining movie of the weekend.  To steal a quote:  "The 'Hair of the Dog' to last year's "Hangover".  Well I thought the Hangover sucked so let's try a better quote.  "The 'Early Morning Bong Hit' to last year's 'Hangover"  Russell Brand>Zach Galafinakis.

Living in Emergency

Set in war-torn Congo and post-conflict Liberia, LIVING IN EMERGENCY: STORIES OF DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS interweaves the stories of four volunteers as they struggle to provide emergency medical care under the most extreme conditions.

Casey's Take:  The feel good movie of the summer

Splice

An Experiment goes Horribly wrong when scientists use human DNA to create a hybrid creature.

Casey's Take:  If Gary Coleman lived long enough to reproduce with his wife their kid would look like Dren.

Too Soon?  Look at this couple

I rest my case . . .

Raajneeti

Rivalry between two sets of cousins draws a man into the dark side of politics

Casey's Take:  Looks pretty interesting actually.  Dark side of politics?  You mean the intern killing, prostitute paying off, oil spill causing, senate seat selling, fake war-mongering, financial bailout having, sarah palin breathing,  side of politics?  Or are we referring to Sith Lords here?

The Killers

An assassin and his wife try to learn who is trying to kill them.

Casey's Take: I'm gonna guess that the Killer is "The Writers of Grey's Anatomy"
